Jasna Mittler

Jasna Mittler was born in 1975 in the town of Neuwied by the Rhine. She was a student at Hildesheim University from 1995 to 2002 reading Cultural Studies and Aesthetic Practice, with the German writer Hanns-Josef Ortheil as her tutor. She has won a number of prizes (including the 2004 Martha Saalfeld Prize) and some highly regarded grants (such as the 2006 Rolf Dieter Brinkmann Award and, in 2007, a residency scholarship at the Villa Decius in Kraków). Her 2005 book,  DER HEILIGE ERWIN (‘Holy Erwin’), has proved a long-time bestseller. Its sequel,  DER HEILIGE ERWIN UND DIE LIEBE (‘Holy Erwin and Love’), was published in 2011. Her third book, MEINE ERSTE BIS NEUNUNDNEUNZIGSTE LIEBE (‘My First and Ninety-Ninth Love’), followed in 2012. Jasna Mittler lives with her family in Cologne.
