Marion Detjen

Marion Detjen was born in Munich in 1969. She studied History, German, and Romance Philology in Berlin and Munich with a scholarship from the German National Academic Foundation. She then worked as a freelancer on historical exhibitions for the Goethe-Institut, Munich’s Department of Culture, and the Federal Centre for Political Education, working, too, as a teacher of German as a foreign language. Her doctoral thesis was on the subject of facilitating escape on the German-German border (with a scholarship from the Federal Foundation for the Reappraisal of the SED-Dictatorship) while also caring for an ill child. From 2009 – 2014 Marion Detjen was a teaching fellow at the Humboldt University’s History Institute and is now based at the Centre for Contemporary History at the University of Potsdam. She lives with her family in Berlin.
