Mitja Vachedin
Mitja Vachedin was born in Leningrad in 1982. He left school after nine years in class, completed an apprenticeship in a beer brewery, and then left for Germany. From 2003 to 2008 he was a student of Political Science and Slavic Studies at the University of Mainz. When he had completed his studies, he worked in a variety of jobs including stacking shelves and being a guest lecturer at the university, before becoming an editor at the Deutsche Welle (Germany’s international broadcaster) in Bonn. After several years at the Deutsche Welle he handed in his notice and moved to Berlin to study Screenplay Writing at Babelsberg, the university specialising in Film. Mitja writes prose, poetry and screenplays in German and in Russian. In 2015 he was awarded one of the scholarships to attend the writing course that is part of the Bachmann Prize in Klagenfurt in Carinthia, Southern Austria.
